Lindsay & Christian, classic elegance meets rustic

Farm at Eagle’s Ridge, Blush by B. photography, May 2017

Lindsay is smart, stylish, and has vision.  She has a beautiful life story.  And now a beautiful, memorable, and perfect spring wedding!

I first met Lindsay years ago when she and my younger sister were classmates in elementary school. We knew of their family growing up and would often run into them in our little Lancaster County community.  So for me, this was so special to make the florals for Lindsay and Christian’s spring wedding.

Lindsay’s initial vision was to use silver dollar eucalyptus everywhere.  Ha, which we did!  But we refined her vision to also incorporate same and similar complimenting eucalyptus for her bouquet and to run down the guest reception tables to give some depth and beauty.  Their color palette was a  beautiful soft grayish green, whites, and pops of deep burgundy from proteas in Linday’s bridal bouquet.

Lindsay’s vision was for a lush, large, and statement bouquet.  So like everything else we design, we customized her bouquet to HER.   We chose baby blue eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, gunni, and other complimenting greens, pops of her desired deep burgundy bridal proteas, white peonies, white anemones, and white ranunculus.  I stayed away from lots of added texture.  But loved the contrast of the roundish, lush flowers to the pointy baby blue.  Her bouquet was finished with May Arts airy ribbons.

The bridesmaids wore dresses from Anthropologie.  They were a perfect balance of mixing up traditional bridesmaid dresses with a touch of class.  We created an elegant bouquet made up of only silver dollar eucalyptus finished with our favorite silk ribbons from May Arts.

The mothers and grandmothers carried a nosegay bouquet with a single white peony and magnolia greenery.

Christian especially wanted an azalea boutonniere.  I have not worked with azaleas in the past and was concerned about it holding up.  I asked why this was especially meaningful to him and Lindsay commented with a smile, “It is a golf thing”.  So, we bought an azalea bush!  I wanted to at least try to make this happen!  Unfortunately as I had predicted, it didn’t survive in the boutonniere before the wedding.  So I made a backup one with a white ranunculus to match Lindsay’s bouquet.

Lindsay was determined, I mean, this girl was dreamin’ and workin’ like crazy, to have the outdoor wedding she dreamed to have with Christian.  Spring in Lancaster can be up in the air and while it rained on and off throughout their day, THEY MADE IT AMAZING!

Their ceremony was short and sweet, as it started raining during the ceremony.  But how fun are these pictures to capture such a momentous moment in their new marriage!?

Even though the day was a bit bleak outside, we filled, and I mean FILLED her aisle with white rose petals which added a soft, floral touch to the ceremony site.

Lindsay chose a non-traditional bench for her guests to sit on, which was perfect for friends to squeeze closer for warmth.  We placed a simple bouquet at the end of each bench made up of white peonies, white wax flowers, some texture, and complimenting greens, finished with silky ribbons.  Again this helped to soften the look of the ceremony since the greens and gardens were not yet in full bloom.

The barn for the reception was filled with long butted banquet tables.  Lindsay and Christian had a local amish friend make wooden cutting boards for each of their guests, personalizing it with their new initials.  This acted as a charger and guest gift.  I mean, seriously?!??  LOVE THIS!

We provided little rosemary twigs to be placed at each guests pacesetting and finished the look with lots of candles and eucalyptus mixed in to create a flowy centerpiece.

Initially Lindsay wanted long garlands running down the tables.  While this look is beautiful and still popular around here, it would have been really expensive for us to make.  So we found a solution to incorporate lots of candles with loose greenery purposefully placed around the candles to still get that long, trailing greeny look.  We also concluded that there wouldn’t be a lot of room on the tables with the wooden cutting boards taking up so much room.  Ha, these are things you learn to ask when styling centerpieces!

Despite the rainy weather, Lindsay and Christian’s day was a dream.  They made it beautiful and memorable.  And we were incredibly honored to play a small role in making their day, theirs! xo
